Who We Are

Association Profile

Skate Canada Manitoba part of the largest figure skating governing body in the world – Skate Canada.  We provide standards and rules for the figure skating activities of our members clubs.  The Association conducts training seminars for skaters and coaches, provides financial support to provincial team athletes and disseminates information concerning figure skating to the general public. Skate Canada Manitoba also promotes the National Coaching Certification Program and organizes free skating and synchronized team skating competitions

Structure

Skate Canada Manitoba is run by a board of directors who set policy. The Board is made up of the Chairman who is elected for a two-year term, the immediate past Chair, three vice-chairs, Chair of the Regional Supervisors, six Sectionally-elected directors, 9 Regional Supervisors, one athlete representative, one coaching representative .
Each of the vice-chair’s is responsible for a different area of Skate Canada Manitoba programming. Standing committees are responsible for conducting programs and activities and report to the appropriate vice-chair.

Skate Canada Manitoba is largely supported by Skate Canada, Sport Manitoba, Section run fundraising, Corporate Sponsorships

Annual General Meeting

Each year an Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held. Many of the major decisions governing the activities of the Association are made at the AGM. Each Skate Canada Manitoba member club is entitled to send an official delegate to this meeting where proposed rule amendments are voted on by the Delegates and the Board of Directors. Clubs unable to send a delegate can still vote on issues by sending in written instructions called proxies.

Volunteer Recognition

Perhaps the most striking feature of Skate Canada's and Skate Canada Manitoba’s organizational structure is its reliance on volunteers. All members of the Board, the Sections and Committees receive no payment for their contribution to Skate Canada and Skate Canada Manitoba. Similarly, the judges, referees and other officials are all volunteers and as such, receive no remuneration for their hard work and dedication. Each year at the AGM, the commitment and dedication of volunteers is recognized at the Awards Gala Evening.

Office Staff

Skate Canada Manitoba’s Office is located at 145 Pacific Winnipeg Manitoba R3B 2Z6 and has a full-time staff of three.
